KIANA COVETS: FINDING THE PERFECT BRA FOR YOUR BODY TYPE

April 16 2014

We're devoted to providing you with product that takes betting out of the game. After years of hearing endless stories about ill fitting bras and the woes of busty women we knew we had to solve this-building you the perfect bra. We also know that our bras don't always satisfy the needs of every woman so I've decided to shed some light on other brands I think have been wildly successful in creating near perfect pieces.
I should start by giving you some background as to the idea of different body types--everyone has a different name for the same thing. And it is often quite hard to understand what your body type is when you're busy dwelling in some gray area.
We decided to run a poll:

Do you ever wear a sport's bra to give you added support and cleavage?

The answers actually didn't shock us-we knew many women were used to relying on their sport's bra to give them some added lift and to ensure support. Except, we were thoroughly shocked to see these results.

Let's get this list of our top six favorite bras in order! For starters, the Jane was one of the first pieces I designed for dMondaine and it quickly became a top seller and desired by all body types. My goal in designing the Jane was to ensure it would deliver coverage throughout the cups with a strong element of comfort but also find a way to construct this bra where it felt like your go-to Victoria's Secret push up. I was super dedicated to giving this bra wider straps to give that element of support and essentially function much like a sports bra would. The straps also produce a sinewy neckline and highlight your best assets much like the straps on an Alaia dress would. This bra is perfect for an Apple body or even an Inverted Triangle where you find yourself carrying most of your body up top. This doesn't even imply a larger bust-many women have broader shoulders, larger arms which change the general dimensions of their figure.

Which leads us to the Betty. When I was initially designing the Betty, I had the fashion girl in mind. Looking for a most perfect t-shirt bra with an added dimension. One she felt comfortable leaving at her boyfriends house. That gave me two main prerogatives: 1) It needs to be sexy, to beat out the competition and 2) It needs to give her support and cleavage. I had heard way too many women lament the fact that they could not get into their favorite bra, with one too many nip slips. And so, the Betty was born. The longline nature of this bra and the shapes give you a thinner illusion that quite literally create a body map. These lines sit under your bust line to lift and contour. Again, reverting back to the idea of a t-shirt bra-this is made for all day wear. It's really important to hunt for a bra that can be versatile enough to wear in a million different circumstances. This bra is best for an hourglass or pear figure considering that your bust may be even to your bottom half or substantially smaller. This body mapping will give you the perfect amount of lift whilst providing some necessary shaping.

A list of my favorite bras could not be true without the Bridget and personally, this is my absolute favorite. Combining elements of luxurious femininity with the fit of a sportier piece. The Bridget is an answer to most woes. Comfortable, practical, sexy lingerie. This bra was a tribute to the woman with a larger bust who was always fairly timid to explore sexier pieces. I designed the thinner straps to be worn multiple ways to accommodate various body types and cup sizes. Also, this becomes a great bra to throw under any tank top, one that you may have avoided for some time because you hated your strapless. How did we do this without an underwire? Well, it fits snugger throughout the sides of the cups to pull you in and eases to the waist to ensure you have plenty of room while smoothing. Ladies with boobies, this will be the most ideal solution. This product fits a universal body type and works especially well for our endowed bombshells.

This wouldn't be an honest post without mentioning my three other favorite go-to's and why I truly adore them. Most women use the option of a sports bra to avoid underwire. We've found some amazing wire free options that will ensure comfort, support and beauty. Let's get into that!

1) The day I met a Calvin Klein bra was the day I knew I would certainly be a forever fan. It is less about construction or even design aesthetic, it is mostly the fact that they serve for a matchless basic. Although most of the lines bras tend to be for the average bust, they have certainly nailed a staple bra. I have heard much enthusiastic feedback on the various styles but I stick to Calvin when I'm in need of a fresh, new basic.

2) When it's time to go on my summer vacation and know I desperately want some pop of color and tons of lace, I seek out Cosabella. Unlike Calvin, Cosabella's bras are definitely very thin and not quite basic. They won't serve my friends with bigger busts because they simply provide no support however, they make for a funky statement.

3) Last but definitely not least, is Chantelle. Chantelle makes gorgeous lace, french inspired bras that cover a full spectrum of sizes and work to support you. Although their wire free bras are a mission to find, they are totally comfortable. I use Chantelle when my ladies may be hidden under a blouse or my Bridget is in the wash! These bras are a must for the lucky ladies who need an E+ cup.

Well, there you have it! Finding the perfect bra takes both time and understanding of your body type. No need to sweat in your sports bra. We weren't all built to wear the most popular bras and often the recommendations of friends can steer us clear of exactly what we need. I continue to learn and grow from my network and you and am always open to expanding the beauty of lingerie and dMondaine. I'm here to help. I'm here to find you the perfect bra.
XOXO,
Kiana Anvaripour, CEO & Founder of dMondaine
